Gracie Chatham
Writer
★ Bio: “I have always been a huge music buff, but it wasn't until I got into high school that I really started to get into live and local music! I started attending local hardcore and indie shows at the Firehouse in Birmingham, and from there I started to branch out in my music listening and get into all kinds of genres! I wrote my honors thesis on the punk movement of the 1970s, and I have read countless books and academic articles on music history and culture!”

★ Bio: “I’ve been singing for as long as I can remember! I’ve also had a strong interest in photography since I was kid. In college, I pursued a vocal performance degree at CU Denver which is a music industry school, so I got to learn about the music business and dive into the world of contemporary music. After graduating, I decided to shift my focus away from performance so I could use my other skills to find my way in the industry. I love working with musicians and getting to be involved with live music as a photographer has been very fulfilling to me.”

Photographer & Writer
★ Bio: “I started going to shows pretty consistently with my mom when I was 14, and have loved live music ever since! Music and concerts ended up being what got me through the highs and lows of high school and always kept me looking forward. Around the time I started going to shows, I also picked up photography - first with film and fine arts photography, then with journalism! It feels almost natural or right that I've fallen in love with concert photography, and I like to think of it as a final form for all my interests growing up. While I'm certainly newer to the concert photography scene, both concerts and photography feel like home to me, and I'm super eager to see where it leads!”

★ Bio: “Hi I’m Mariah, I’m 20, born and raised in Houston. I’ve always loved music, I’m a bassist myself :D I’ve been in the scene already for a little over a year and I love it sm. I’ve made a lot of friends and clients of plenty of genres. Being in the scene just gives me a lot of motivation seeing everyone themselves being motivated to keep doing what they love. I go to as many shows as I can, especially when it comes to my friends shows. I like to let them know that they’re supported. Capturing the memories of this happening with my photos is legitimately so fulfilling.”

Photographer & Writer
★ Bio: “I think my love for music has always come from when I was 13 and discovered One Direction. That along with the Tumblr era where I also discovered the 1975 really shaped the fangirl in me. When Harry went solo I made a friend off twitter who happened to be the same major as me, and when I met her in class she told me all about Coog Radio, UH’s radio station and how they had a web team. We joined it together and that’s when I got my first taste of getting photo passes and shooting from the pit and I realized this is something I could make a career. Suddenly I had realized that I could turn such a big part of me into a job one day, and while i’m still in that process it’s been amazing meeting new people and getting to practice my photography! I’ve gone to events in Houston that highlight local artists and it’s been a great way to know more about the music scene in our city.”

★ Bio: “I’ve been involved with music for as long as I can remember, whether it be making music or consuming it. I’ve been playing instruments for well over a decade and been going to concerts for even longer. With those previous experiences, I was able to create a photographic style that truly captures the culpability of the energy in the room.”

Zuleyka Vargas
Photographer
★ Bio: “Hi! My name is Zuleyka, and I’m an 18-year-old student from the Bronx currently studying Law & Society. Outside of school, one of my biggest passions is photography, especially concert and live music photography. I’ve always loved music because it’s something that’s constantly been around me. Music has a way of bringing people together, creating memories, and helping people express themselves in ways words sometimes can’t. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve become more interested in the communities that form around music, especially local and independent scenes where people are creating art simply because they love it. My interest in the music scene really grew when I started attending more shows and discovering smaller artists. Seeing the energy between performers and the crowd made me want to be a part of it somehow. Photography became that way for me. I love being able to capture moments that might only last a few seconds but mean a lot to the people experiencing them.
